As Technology Advances and Revolutionizes our Communications efforts we find ourselves falling in love more and more as well as loving and depending more and more on our small portable hand held Cell/Mobile Phones, iPhones, 3G, 3GS & iPods. Because of this we are demanding more and better Services (customer relations), User Friendly (easy to use), Reliability of use (will work the way it’s suppose to all the time), Benefits above and beyond (everybody wants and likes to get more than what they paid for … compare providers). WiFi Wellness: Healthcare Techies Build Patient Apps to Cut Costs
May 2nd
Baby Boomers are trashing their simple, Jitterbug-ish handsets and staying in touch with Blackberrys and iPhones more than ever before; a trend that’s not lost on the cost-conscious eyes of leaders within the healthcare industry.
This new power generation of slowly aging but connected consumers is the target of a slew of new handheld applications now in development that do everything from provide one-touch access to health and wellness information to registering blood sugar levels, scheduling reminders for medication, tracking patient heart rates and on-demand video chat via handheld with doctors and nurses. As these phones continue to get even more powerful than they already are, WiFi healthcare will continue to rise.
Icyou, a new start-up company that primarily manages and provides content for several Internet video libraries, recently announced the availability of its iPhone application. The app allows users to navigate the company site for health information and download videos for viewing away from home. Everything from emergency CPR lessons to motivational fitness videos are now a touch screen away.
Among the more unique health-related applications for smart phones is My Life Record, a $50 application that allows you to manage and access medical records including doctor information and images such as X-rays, ultrasounds and electrocardiograms. The company says in spite of its relatively high cost (when compared to other apps that typically cost about a dollar), the software has grown in popularity since its introduction to the iPhone platform a year ago.
Once reserved for the clinical environment, professional-grade hearing tests, food trackers, medication alarms and other apps are making their way into the smart phone mainstream. Insurance companies and hospitals hope they lead to significant cost-cuts to their bottom lines while emphasizing wellness as part of their policy holders’ daily routines.
Healthcare providers and doctors were among the first consumers to take desktop medical applications into their palms, since mobility and 24/7 schedules made it virtually impossible to track patient care without the aid of software. The most common physician and health care provider apps now include:
Drug databases Medical calculators Reference programs Decision support for both physicians and nurses Tracking patient stats (weight, blood pressure, etc.) Patient history accessing, managing, and documenting Communication managers Payer tools (coding, eligibility determination, etc.)
Chronic disease support companies, whose business model is built around call centers staffed with registered nurses, are also re-thinking how they provide service. Some industry analysts say online chat via smart phones will become the norm since their typical patient base is living longer and not necessarily confined to their homes.
To most people, health insurance is a plastic card with numbers that lets you into the doctor?s office and a little booklet of paper that lives in your filing cabinet, closet or some dusty corner of your home. To Michael, affordable health insurance and the historical reforms that go along with the inequality of healthcare in America are topics of healthy discussion, worthy of further study and catalysts for education and action. Michael lives in Miami.

Cpr Mobile Phone Apps Save Lives By Reducing Fear Of Failure
May 1st
It is impossible to do under pressure what you have not practiced and mentally visualized a thousand times relaxed. Unpracticed CPR skills can dissipate within weeks, even for healthcare professionals. Without additional opportunity to review and reinforce CPR skills, an intensive four-hour basic CPR certification course is of diminishing value over time. CPR Training applications for the BlackBerry and iPhone opens a new, easy-to-use, avenue to refresh and review skills proven to save lives.
According to the American Heart Association, there are more 300,000 deaths a year from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) alone. These numbers are not just elderly folks with known heart disease. Sudden Cardiac Arrest strikes without warning. Each year, SCA is responsible for deaths of many who appear otherwise healthy, including young promising athletes, dancers, runners, and others who literally “drop dead.” Equipping the public with skills and competency to perform basic life-sustaining CPR could double or triple the number of cardiac event survivors.
Seconds count when someone has stopped breathing. With every second on the line, could you confidently leap to action, if a friend or loved one stopped breathing? There is no time to hesitate if you are first on the scene. It is the difference between life and death, and potentially the difference between a return to full function or permanent brain damage.
Less than seven minutes without oxygen to the brain can spell permanent brain-damage or diminished functional capacity. Even the speediest Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rarely arrives on scene within those decisive seven minutes. Survival rates fall 7% to 10% for each minute without CPR. Yet, studies suggest only 15% to 30% of cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR before EMS personnel arrive at the scene.i Why? What could explain such relatively few attempts to resuscitate? When someone is already not breathing, what is there to lose? Why aren’t more bystanders attempting CPR?
Various theories attempt to explain why bystanders hesitate to initiate CPR or even AED (automated external defibrillation). Researchers hypothesized bystanders failed to perform CPR for fear of incurring legal liability; however, the passage in most states of “Good Samaritan” legislation limiting liability for rescuers has all but eliminated that concern. Researchers also theorized bystander reluctance stemmed from fear of exposure to infectious disease performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Recent surveys of people actually on the scene witnessing a cardiac event debunked that theory.
Studies found one obstacle to the initiation of CPR is the complexity of following CPR guidelines, but even that is not the number one reason so few bystanders step up to perform CPR. Astoundingly, in surveys of actual bystanders to cardiac arrest, the most often-cited reason for declining to initiate CPR is “fear of failure.” This lack of confidence or fear of incorrectly performing CPR cost precious moments that could mean the difference between life and death. CPR Training readily available as a phone app, translates into an effortless opportunity to frequently review life-saving skills, so when an emergency arises, bystanders can jump in more confidently during those key moments awaiting professional medical services. In short, CPR Training for the iPhone and BlackBerry can save lives by helping to reduce or eliminate the fear of failure.

Ipad Apps: New Gold Rush For Developers?
Apr 30th
With the announcement of the iPad shipping April 3, 2010, Apple opened up a plethora of new possibilities for application developers. iPad Apps will undoubtedly see the same success that has been seen with the iPod Touch and iPhone. Many potential iPhone developers turned iPad developers are extremely excited about the many possibilities that will come from their original iPhone Apps and their soon-to-come iPad apps.
In all honesty, the iPad will create a new gold rush for application developers. There will be a lot of money that can be made from this new product, and in multiple ways. Those who work with iPad app development will see benefits in three major ways: Cross-Product Ability, Old Applications, and New Applications.
Cross Product Abilities
The iPad will have an interesting feature that will allow applications to be used on both the iPhone and the iPad. Applications that are created for the iPhone will be able to be bumped up to the iPad. This gives iPad app developers the ability to double the market that they may reach. They will design one game but will be able to have that game purchased for two separate pieces of technology.
Old Applications Should Work
The major gold rush that will come for current developers will come in the form of the applications that they have already created. Nearly all of the applications that have been created for the iPhone will be able to be used on the iPad. While no extra money will be made off of those who already own the application, money can be made off of iPad users who do not have the iPhone. Developers will not need to perform any more work on the applications that they have already created, but will be able to push them for an entirely new platform.
New Applications for the iPad
The biggest part of the application gold rush that will hit the iTunes store because of the iPad will be because of the newest capabilities of the iPad. To put it simply, the iPad is bigger. There are multiple developers who have axed ideas or halted application ideas because the screen of the iPhone was too small. They will now be able to attempt those applications for the iPad.
Application development teams will have the ability to do more with their applications. The big touch screen will allow for more to be placed on the screen at once. Applications can be more complicated, providing more information at once without having any visibility issues.
iPad app developers will see multiple benefits from the release of the iPad. The new product gives them something new and unique to explore as they reap the benefits from any old iPhone applications they may have created. If these developers use a mixture of both old applications and new applications, they can easily see more money than ever before through any iPad application development. Some new and exciting opportunties will arise for the likes of the restaraunt industry (think iPad menus) and the medical field (think of a doctor walking around with an iPad instead of a clipboard and a medical chart).
Jordan Ianelli has been an iPhone App Developer and an iPad App Developer ever since Apple announced the release of the SDK in 2008. Jordan is currently working with iPad App Developers for his first iPad app launch.
